Ring! Ring! Ring! Goes Your Job!

TransitCellBanWith more rights being taken away from cell phone users it's hard to stomach that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has opted to place a "zero-tolerance" rule on employees using a cell phone.

However, while this may come as a surprise to some, the real tragedy is the supportive tone from Boston Carmen's Union, which supports change in the policy.  This policy regrouping is the result of a trolley driver, Aiden Quinn, 24, who caused a trolley-to-trolley collision after he text his girlfriend at the time of the crash that resulted in his firing.  The trolley accident injured roughly 50 people.

As MBTA drivers rev their engines, they are made aware that if caught with a wireless device in their possession they will have a 10-day suspension for the first offense, followed by a 30-day suspension for the second offense with firing looming afterwards.  However, drivers caught actually using a cell phone will immediately be handed a pink slip without warning.  Understandably, MBTA's drivers believe the new ban is "unreasonable" and are angered by the new policy.

The Boston Carmen's Union said public safety and personal needs can be met if drivers are somehow allowed to keep their cell phones in a locked compartment.
